The AD-1PRE+ is a high-end stereo decoder supporting CD, SACD, MP3, and WMA audio formats as well as USB-Audio, phono MM/MC, optical, and coaxial connections. The AD-1PRE+ adopts a multi-chamber layout, balanced circuits, and several high-class chips to enable Hi-Fi level processing such as DSD decoding.

Balanced & Unbalanced Connections

In addition to the unbalanced RCA analogue inputs and outputs, which are expected from a preamplifier at this level, the AD-1PRE+ comes equipped with high-quality balanced XLR inputs and outputs. Use these terminals for a superior connection to a power amplifier such as the matching Tonewinner AD-1PA+. A balanced connection has superior resistance to noise and interference ensuring a cleaner signal makes its way to your power amp.

For connecting a turntable, the AD-1PRE+ includes both MM and MC phono inputs. providing connections for both cartridge types ensures that turntables at all levels are supported by the AD-1PRE+ processor.

ES9038 DAC

For high-end processing of digital signals via the optical, coaxial, and USB inputs, the AD-1PRE+ features the ESS9038 DAC, which enables the preamplifier to decode hi-resolution signals from digital sources. This high-end chip from ESS processes DSD signals up to 22.5MHz, and PCM signals up to 768kHz/32bit. The signal-to-noise ratio of the chip is as high as 129dB, and the distortion is as low as -120dB, ensuring that the analogue signal that is passed on to your power amplifier is as clear as possible.

Digital audio formats supported include DSD 512 (SACD, ISO, DST, DFF), AIFF, ALAC, APE, DIFF, DSF, FLAC, OGG, WAV, AAC, MP3, and WMA.

Energy Efficiency

During operation, the AD-1PRE+ consumes 150W for dependent digital and analogue circuits to support its strong processing abilities. In standby mode, the unit consumes 0.5W and can be woken up with the included remote control.

With Trigger Out connection, the AD-1PRE+ can be used to wake up other devices in your hi-fi system such as a power amp, source device, and more.

Perfect Isolation

The AD-1PRE+ has been designed and constructed to physically separate the different sections of the device and thus ensure isolation from unwanted interference and noise.

The AD-1PRE+ utilises a specially-designed analogue power supply to improve the sound quality. The exterior of the whole unit adopts an aluminium alloy anodizing drawing process for durable performance.

Pure Class A Amplification

With both Class A and Class AB circuits, the AD-1PA+ supplies high-power amplification to any speaker load, made possible by the audiophile-grade toroidal transformer. The Class A circuit adopts a fully balanced, symmetrical, differential input to differential BTL power output.

Ensuring that only the best quality signal is passed through the amplifier, each channel features 24K gold-plated unbalanced (RCA) inputs along with a pair of heavy-duty speaker outputs.

High-Performance Toroidal Transformer

To achieve its impressive power levels in both Class AB and Class A modes, the Tonewinner AD-1PA+ is equipped with a large power supply, including a high-performance toroidal transformer of no less than 1200W. 16 large filter capacitors with a total capacity of 180,000µF ensure a clean and stable electrical signal. In addition, the left and right channels are independently power supplied.

The AD-1PA+ features a low-noise differential amplifier circuit for improved signal-to-noise ratio. The amplifier stage of the AD-1PA+ embeds 8 pairs of high-power transistors TTC5200 and TTA1943. These allow the amplifier to deliver a consequent power of 300W RMS (Class AB operation) per channel under 8Ω.

Powerfully Versatile

The Tonewinner AD-1PA+ has three operating modes: Class A, Class AB or Auto. A switch allows you to select the most suitable mode according to your needs and your installation. The Auto mode automatically switches from Class A to Class AB when the temperature of the unit reaches a certain limit and switches back to Class A once the unit's temperature drops.

With its dual speaker terminals, the Tonewinner AD-1PA+ offers the possibility of bi-wiring. This method of connecting to speakers can offer an improvement in sound quality by reducing the magnetic interactions of the cables. Alternatively, take advantage of the speaker A/B configurations and connect a second pair of speakers for easy referencing.
