Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway and Michael Cain star in Christopher Nolan’s latest Sci-Fi adventure film, Interstellar. The Earth has been ravaged by extreme changes in conditions causing drought and famine. Cooper, played by McConaughey is a former pilot and engineer who has turned to farming his land to feed his family.

In a visit with his old mentor Dr. Brand (Michael Caine) Cooper meets the doctors’ daughter Amelia (Anne Hathaway) who is also a scientist. Cooper is told of wormholes which have manifested around the universe with the largest near Saturn. Dr. Brand explains the urgency for humans to leave Earth and find a new planet to live on. He recruits Cooper to join Amelia and a small team on a mission to explore the wormholes believed to hold the key to humanities survival.

Cooper’s two children do not want him to go. His daughter Murphy begs him to stay, even explaining to her Dad that dust on the floor of her bedroom spelled out the message “stay”. Knowing that his children will age seven years to every one hour he is away on the far away planet, Cooper leaves making the promise that he will be back.

We are torn between the characters emotional needs to be with their loved ones and the fundamental desire to protect the future of humanity.
