An Evolution of the A5+ Classic

The A5+ Wireless uses the same amplifier design and woofers that the A5+ Classic does, so both the A5+ Wireless and the A5+ Classic should sound virtually the same. The biggest difference between the two is the added Bluetooth receiver built into the A5+ Wireless; Audioengine have added a 24-bit DAC built inside that connects any Bluetooth capable device (whether be your phone, tablet, or computer) to the speakers, so you can stream high-quality music directly without having to use audio cables. The A5+ Wireless also features a minor cosmetic refresh; the most obvious of which includes centring the tweeters, as opposed to the offset tweeters featured on the A5+ Classic.

The Bluetooth built into the A5+ Wireless speakers features aptX coding which is an advanced Bluetooth audio codec with very impressive sound. And even if your phone or tablet does not have aptX, the A5+ Wireless Bluetooth solution is backwards-compatible with SBC and AAC codecs, so you can wirelessly stream music from any Bluetooth-enabled device and still enjoy all your music. High-fidelity Bluetooth aptX that really works and sounds great.

The A5+ Wireless system works with all your apps, music, and devices so no matter how you listen, whether it's Tidal, Spotify, Pandora, etc., all your favourite streaming apps play instantly.

Extended Wireless Range

Most Bluetooth implementations have a very limited range, typically within just one room. But with careful signal management circuitry and antenna tuning, Audioengine offers a superior solution that has up to 3 times the range of standard Bluetooth for multi-room use, with no degradation in audio quality. Audioengine Bluetooth products have very low latency when compared to most Bluetooth receivers, around 30ms.

Power-Saving Mode

To make your wireless music playback experience as seamless as possible, the A5+ Wireless speakers are equipped with a power-saving circuit that turns off the speaker's final stage amp when not in use. This idle mode activates right after you stop playing music. Due to this power-saving function, it's perfectly fine for the speakers to stay on all the time!

Unique, Bespoke Design

Audioengine's built-in analogue power amplifiers sound incredible compared to lower-cost digital amps found in mass-produced brands.

Audioengine designs and manufactures their own speaker drivers and other critical components. In other words, the A5+ Wireless is not a box-built system with off-the-shelf parts, but includes custom-designed components constructed to their specifications. What they do not fabricate directly inside their factories they have made to their specific designs. Parts such as circuit boards, transformers, magnets, and wiring harnesses, for example.

The speaker cabinets, drivers, innovative bass port designs, amplifiers, and passive crossovers are all critically tuned together for each Audioengine model. This, in turn, makes for a much more efficient system that requires less power than passive speakers and a separate integrated amplifier or similar A/V components. Audioengine builds all this goodness into the left speaker cabinet to make it super-easy to connect your smartphone, tablet, computer, TV, network player or any other audio product.

Unlike most smaller computer speakers, Audioengine 5+ Wireless cabinets are constructed of 13mm-thick high-density fiberboard, rather than plastic. The A5+ Wireless system offers a whole new audio experience, guaranteed.

Amplifier & Driver Design

The amplifiers in powered Audioengine speakers are located in the left speaker and are a conservatively-rated class A/B analog monoblock design. This is a more traditional speaker/amplifier marriage which provides excellent quality audio and greater flexibility. All circuit boards for the power and preamp sections are vertically mounted for maximum mechanical shock protection.

Audioengine uses audiophile-quality, ferrofluid-cooled silk dome tweeters with neodymium magnets. Silk tweeters hold up well under high power and the edge-driven design gives a very smooth response. The woofers are aramid fibre woven glass composite with rubber surrounds. Aramid fibre is obviously very strong, which means that the woofer retains its shape when being driven at high levels. The speaker materials and construction are robust enough to stand up to some serious thrashing, so speaker grills are not needed and they will sound and look great after many years of use.

Power transformers are a large contributor to the overall audio performance, especially in the low end. Again, no off-the-shelf parts. Audioengine uses gapless core toroidal transformers which have a tighter radiated magnetic field, directly translating to lower noise. They are lighter than standard, lower-cost transformers and also generate less heat.

Both drivers are directly video shielded and allow the user to place the speakers within a few inches of a video monitor. This shielding also offers protection for hard-drive digital music players.
