Yamaha Reveals New Affordable Streaming Amps and Bookshelf Speakers

Yamaha released a pair of affordable streaming amplifiers at High End Munich 2023, along with two sleek bookshelf speaker models that combine to create a compact hi-fi setup.

Wallet-Friendly Streaming Amplifiers

Next up on our High End Munich spotlight is our favorite manufacturer of pianos and motorcycles -- Yamaha. This year they released products that are attractive to both the eyes and the wallet. The new R-N1000A and R-N800A streaming amplifiers are affordable and still boast top of the line Yamaha technology.

These new amplifier models are quickly recognizable as classic Yamaha devices, and give the appearance of proper high-end gear with a low-vibration chassis. The R-N1000A even features a double-bottom chassis reinforced with an iron damping plate. These models may be affordable, but they still feature quality construction inside and out.

Yamaha also tells us that these new amps include custom power transformers and block capacitors, among other high quality audio components. Their unique audio calibration technology, Yamaha Parametric Room Acoustic Optimizer (YPAO) can be found in both amp models. This technology actively analyzes audio coming in and compensates for changes in the audio caused by room shape and size.

Both amplifiers support streaming via Yamaha's MusicCast platform, as this the Yamaha standard. This allows for connection to streaming services as well as DLNA streaming. Users can also connect to AirPlay 2, Spotify Connect, and Tidal Connect.

The two models are very similar, with the more pricey R-N1000A claiming a few additional features over its sibling. It includes an HDMI socket, an additional Amtrans resistor (for a total of 3) which boosts scale and expression, pure brass cut speaker terminals, as well as high-grade Toshin Kogyo coupling capacitors.

Bookshelf Speakers as the Ultimate Sidekick

To go along with the R-N1000A and R-N800A amps, Yamaha also released two pairs of bookshelf speakers. For those looking for a simple and compact, yet complete hi-fi system, they can look no further than the NS-800A and NS-600A speakers. The former features a 16cm woofer and the latter has a smaller 13cm woofer.

Although they are small, these speakers are mighty. Both models are equipped with Yamaha's new Harmonious Diaphragm cone, which is crafted from a blend of Zylon and spruce. Zylon, the company notes, offers optimal internal dissipation and sound velocity, and spruce is the same material used in the soundboard of their grand pianos. These materials help to deliver tonally balanced sound across all frequencies.

As for sound absorption, Yamaha patented their own technology to avoid conventional sound-absorbing materials. Instead, these speakers feature two unique tubes placed in a back chamber to absorb unwanted resonance behind the tweeters. This method cancels resonance while preserving the speaker's liveliness. Both of the new bookshelf models are finished in shiny piano black.

All four of these new releases are set to hit the market in the second half of this year, so Yamaha fans be on the lookout.
