Papa’s son, Hassan, played by Manish Dayal has
real culinary talent. His father knows it, and eventually Madame Mallory recognises it also. In a competitive war of cultural passions, Papa and Madame Mallory wrestle with the concept that they each have unique perspectives, but that they have a lot to teach each other. The focus of the film is predominantly with Hassan’s defiance of his very traditional father, and the demands placed on him as the eldest son. In a perhaps predictably unfolding story, we watch as two very different cultures inter-twine with flavour and family the key elements. Taken under Madame Mallory’s wing, we watch as Hassan grows as a chef and as a man, in turn giving a lesson to his proud father.
