With a who’s who cast, we see Ralph Fiennes as Gustave H, a legendary concierge at the famous Grand Budapest Hotel between the two World Wars. Quirky Director Wes Anderson has assembled an incredible cast including Adrien Brody, Willem Dafoe, Jeff Goldblum, Harvey Keitel, Jude Law, Bill Murray, Edward Norton, Tilda Swinton, Owen Wilson and even more.
Set between the 1930s – 60s, the Second World War plays a big part in setting the themes in what can be described as a classic murder-mystery caper. Bursting with comedy and drama, Gustave is renowned as a key figure within The Grand Budapest Hotel. He is attentive to the needs of the hotel’s wealthy clientele, and is especially popular with the older women who flock to the hotel for his attention.
Weaved through the film is his relationship with Zero, the young Lobby Boy, who becomes his trusted protégé. As Gustave is framed for the murder of hotel patron Madame D, Zero aids him in escaping from prison and attempts to prove his innocence.
The Grand Budapest Hotel, captures a style of film that is not typically mainstream. Refreshingly unique, and full of surprises, recognisable faces appear as new characters are introduced. Sometimes torn between the “Good Guys” and the “Bad Guys”, the story oozes "quirky" in which the audience is taken on a thoroughly enjoyable adventure.
