Still not sure which headphones to buy?
"Which headphones suit me more? Should I get over ear, in-ear or on-ear? What's the difference?"
There really is no right answer on this one. A lot is up to personal preference; however there are certainly some things to take into consideration. There is a lot of mixed and sometimes confusing information out there. We’re going to try to help you decide which suits you!
These days most of us have smart phones, tablets, portable media devices and we invest a substantial amount of money in them. Then we think, “Ok, now I need to just grab some headphones”, and we don’t always consider that the sound we hear can differ hugely depending on the quality and type we choose. Why should you care what the sound is like? Because once you’ve heard quality sound through your device, you will never want to go back to the tinny “cheapies” you picked up at the supermarket.
Now, you need to decide what function your sound performs. Do you listen whilst jogging? Do you relax on your couch listening to your favourite tunes, or do you spend late nights mixing your band’s latest download? Already you can see how some models won’t suit you, and others are leading the way.
Ok, so let’s spell it out:
Ear Buds/Phones: Awesome for portability, this style is ideal for sound on the move. Compact and lightweight, these can take a lot of motion. Imagine trying to jog with a pair of headphones. They’d be bouncing all over the place. Earphones sit slightly inside the ear canal, which helps to cancel out some outside noise interference, where an ear-bud sits outside the ear canal.
Headphones: The obvious difference between earphones and headphones is the size. A lot bulkier, the headphone sits over the head, usually with an adjustable band. Many models are foldable, so transporting them is easier these days. The cups are designed to sit either on or over your ear. On-Ear headphones rest on top of the ear, where over-ear headphones encompass the ear. The over-ear style is most successful at noise reduction, and allows for a magnificent aural experience. Either is ideal when you are seeking a fuller experience. So which style is for you?
