The latest documentary from Oscar winning director Ron Howard, "Made in America" follows the rapper Jay Z in 2012 as he plans and performs with dozens of artists in a music festival spanning various genres. Jay Z hopes to uplift the American people who are struggling through a crippling recession by coordinating and performing a two-day concert in the "birthplace of American Independence", Philadelphia Pennsylvania.
Managing to secure artists such as Rita Ora, Kanye West, Run DMC, Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam and many more, the audience is treated to performers from pop, electronic, rock, folk and hip hop genres.
"This is not a concert film but rather a reflection of the fabric of what it means to be Made in America – what the festival represents, why Jay is doing it, and how he relates to each artist," said Ron Howard. Taken inside the world of Grammy award winning artist Jay Z, Ron Howard believes that "Made In America is intended to showcase Jay Z's struggle for success and illustrate how he has become a voice and an icon for a generation of driven and creative youth."
Made in America may seem to have limited appeal at first, however the awareness of social difficulties at this time in the United States breathes something different into a "Concert Documentary". The coming together of artists with a larger purpose is intriguing, inspiring and uplifting. If you love music and enjoy a film with a social conscience you may enjoy Made in America. In cinemas now.
