Over the last 20 years or so, we have seen a surge in outdoor entertaining areas in new and renovated homes. This means different things to different people. You may find that the barbeque and a few deck chairs is all you need, however for many this has seen the outdoors become an extension of the inside and indeed another “room”. Entertaining or relaxing outdoors also sees us looking to incorporate technology that typically stayed inside, outside. So, can you mount a TV outside? In short, the answer is yes, however there are a few considerations when doing so.
Any Selby mounting bracket can be used outside as they are made of steel. Keep in mind that even a material as strong as steel, can suffer when exposed to the outdoor elements. It is recommended that you only mount your TV (and bracket) in a shaded, undercover position. Televisions, electricity and brackets like nothing worse than sun, wind & rain. Attach your bracket to a secure wall. (Check out our blog on fitting a wall bracket), and choose the type of bracket that will give you the flexibility to view your television for the various locations in your “outdoor room”. (Check out our blog on choosing the right bracket).
It is up to you what kind of television you choose to mount outdoors, although it is important to know that just as there are specific outdoor speakers available, there are specific outdoor televisions on the market for just this purpose also. Depending on your situation, a regular indoor television may not be the right choice for your outdoor room. Specifically designed outdoor televisions are made with reduced glare, strengthened glass and special cooling systems to allow for the heat of Summer. Your typical "indoor" television may not last long in the elements.
Once you’ve got your TV mounted and your bar-fridge stocked, sit back and relax.
