Have you wondered whether your theatre room is becoming crowded with speakers dotted around you? Would you rather less clutter or have your favourite photos or paintings decorate your walls instead of speakers? Perhaps In-ceiling speakers are the answer, because ceilings are typically clutter free and only used for the odd light. Take careful note of your current lighting plan, because this will also determine where your speakers can be positioned.
Most ceilings allow easier access for installation via the ceiling cavity, rather than struggling with behind-the-wall surprises. It is always better to plan your set-up during the build, and prior to the plaster going into your room, however this option is not always possible. Your electrician is the best place to start for advice on your individual situation.
Many prefer the directional capabilities of wall speakers, however your senses will adjust to the overhead directional sound that emits from ceiling speakers. Some newer ceiling speakers have made headway by reproducing more effectively directed sound, so don’t rule them out before you listen to them. Selby stock both straight firing (downward) and angled (directional) versions to suit your particular room.
It is fair to keep in mind that most ceiling speakers do not have the same deep bass notes as a high end speaker, because the woofer is not as large and deep as it needs to be mounted in the ceiling. Unless you are a serious audiophile, you should find the output more than suitable. Another benefit is that installing speakers in the ceiling, hides the wires from view, and in turn reduces the risk of tripping and injuring yourself or your guests.
Whichever way you decide to go, it’s good to know what’s available to you. Feel free to call and speak to one of our Selby Techs on 1800 69 2225 to find out more about in-ceiling speakers.
